Having had my friends drag me down there on a few recent occasions... It's pretty cool. - Aphrodite , posted 11/15/06

The Utopian Cocktail Lounge
When I walk into a bar and immediately feel as though I've been teleported into a disco-era porno movie cocktail lounge--complete with mirrorballs, dim, red lighting, an array of lava lamps mixed in with the liquor bottles and a large JFK with flashing red eyes--several things will likely occur, short of Ginger Lynn bursting in for an allnighter orgy. One is that I'll return, two is that I'll tell all of my friends about it and return with them, and three is that I'll stay there instead of performing the traditional bar hop in search for a place cooler that also doesn't play Skynyrd or feature a red, white and blue string of vinyl NASCAR racing flags advertising the Bud Light specials running the perimeter of the bar. The Shelter, 4155 East Grant Road is all that and more. It makes me horny. For the ladies? A little. For the cute blonde bartender? Maybe. But mainly for that dark red lighting and the Flash Gordon movie playing silently in the background. And for the hot pink and black zebra striped wall and those big ceramic garishly painted old 70s ashtrays. This is THE utopian cocktail lounge and you'll only tiptoe around it with the other bars in town but, then, we all need something to strive for. - Adam , posted 06/11/06
